Trekkers, a local outdoor-based youth mentoring organization, has hired Cathy Herr as Volunteer and Administrative Coordinator. She holds a B.S. in wildlife ecology and a B.A. in mathematics from the University of Maine at Orono.

Her recent work has included studying sea turtles for the Hawaii Island Hawksbill Turtle Recovery Project and working with the Maine Conservation Corps.

After living on the Big Island of Hawaii for approximately three years, Cathy is happy to be back in Maine and experience seasons once again. She is excited to have the opportunity to connect to the Midcoast Maine community and share her passion for volunteerism and the outdoors. During her off time, you would likely find her exploring nature on a hike, in kayak, or on a camping trip.

Currently celebrating its 24th year of working with local youth, Trekkers connects young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education. This year, the organization will serve more than 240 youth and involve more than 100 adult mentors from the communities of Cushing, Owls Head, Rockland, South Thomaston, St. George and Thomaston.
