BURNHAM — State Police say a 2-year-old boy died in Burnham on Oct. 17 when a tractor, driven by his grandfather, accidentally backed over him. The incident took place at the man's home on Pond Road.

According to police, 54-year-old Raymond Rayeski Sr. was watching his grandson, Raymond Rayeski III, and late Monday morning the two were outside working with a tractor around a woodpile on the property. Police investigators said the two were both on the tractor at one point, but the child decided to get off the tractor to play.

During that time, the grandfather continued to operate the tractor and was cleaning up debris and dumping the items a short distance away.

Police said it appears the boy then ran after the grandfather on the tractor, who was backing up and did not see the boy.

Rayeski Sr. drove his grandson to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield, where he died. Detectives termed the tragic death an accident.
