THOMASTON — There is a winning team in Knox County and it includes law enforcement officers, first responders and the Special Olympics Maine athletes.

The annual “Tip-A-Cop event” was held at Applebee’s in Thomaston Sept. 13, with a record number of athletes and “celebrity waiters” (law enforcement officers and first responders) attending.

The “celebrity waiters” wore their official uniforms and were busy for four hours making numerous trips back and forth to the kitchen, waiting tables, chatting with customers, and collecting their tips that were all donated back to the charity.

The donations have all been tallied up and the final amount raised was $3,050.

Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Hills and Rockland Ticket Officer Troy Peasley spearheaded the fundraising event.

They said it was a huge success and extended their appreciation to the community for their support along with entire crew at Applebee’s including the management, wait staff, cooks, bartenders, and hostesses who all worked as a united team with the “celebrity waiters.”

And by the noise level from the crowd at the restaurant, everyone had a good time.

“The place was rockin,” said Hills.
