THOMASTON — Thomaston Police are investigating a burglary at the Maine State Prison Showroom, at 358 Main Street, where several thousand dollars and the store’s safe were stolen. Thomaston Police Chief Kevin Haj said that the burglary was reported to police the morning of Nov. 30 at approximately 5:40 a.m. after an employee entered the store.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit spent most of the day at the showroom processing evidence with Sgt. Tim Hoppe, who is leading the investigation for the department, according to Haj. The store was closed Monday during the investigation.

The showroom displays all wood products handcrafted by the inmates who work at one of the facilities to learn job skills, work ethics and responsibility to help them transition back into the workforce upon release, according to the showroom’s website.

Haj said that if anyone has any information to please call the Thomaston Police Department at 354-2511.
