THORNDIKE — A Thorndike man is facing multiple charges following a domestic incident on Thorndike Road Sept. 15.

Andrew G. Smith, 37, was arrested after a woman reported having been assaulted.

Sergeant James Greeley and Deputy Andrew Mulligan responded to the call and learned that the ongoing incident had begun the prior evening, according to a media report.

The woman reportedly told law enforcement that the assault began Sept. 14 with a “highly agitated” Andrew Smith.

Smith allegedly assaulted the victim in a number of ways, including punching her, dragging her by her hair and strangling her until she lost consciousness, according to the report. He also took her phone away when she attempted to call for help. Injuries sustained by the woman were consistent with the reported violence.

Law enforcement located and attempted to question Smith, who was uncooperative. He was placed under arrest and charged with domestic violence assault, domestic violence terrorizing and obstructing the report of a crime.

While traveling to the Waldo County Correctional Facility Smith continued to be combative, assaulting Deputy Mulligan after reaching through the partition. Smith also made threats to kill Mulligan while en route to the correctional center.

The attack on and threats against Deputy Mulligan led to additional charges of assault and terrorizing.

Smith is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 7.
