THOMASTON – The Thomaston Firecracker Kids one mile Fun Run was held early Saturday morning to kick off the Fourth of July celebration in town.

As the time got close for the start of the Kids Fun Run the crowd was gathering steadily. With 57 runners starting the Fun Run, a huge number of children for a kids race, Beechwood St. was closed off and the races were underway at 8 a.m.

Christopher Kilayko, an 11 year old from Barrington Il. won the Fun Run with a time of 5:37. Ashley Haufler an 11 year old from Acton Ma. was the first girl to finish. She finished second overall with a time of 6:19.

The first locals to cross were, Simon Fox and Isabel Danforth, both from Owls Head and they finished third and fourth respectfully.

Kids from age two up to age 12 ran the race, many alone for the first time while the very young got some support from a parent running with them. Overall it was an outstanding Kids Fun Run and the large crowd that had gathered by the start cheered each and every one of the kids on as they approached the finish line.
