ROCKLAND — Thelma (Butterfield) Baker, 98, died March 14, 2013, in Rockland. Born in Lincoln March 19, 1914, she was the daughter of Claude and Hazel (Weymouth) Butterfield and was a 1932 graduate of Bangor High School. She was also a graduate of Beal Business College in Bangor. In 1949, she married Harry W. Baker in Camden. She was employed for many years in Portland where she worked at Utilities Distributors Inc.

Mr. and Mrs. Baker had lived on Chestnut Street in Camden and on Atlantic Highway in Lincolnville near the Camden Hills State Park. They owned and operated the Surprise Motel and Cottages, now called The Lighthouse, and retired in 1976. In the 1980s they moved to Rockland.

She is predeceased by her husband, Harry W. Baker, who died in 1995; a sister, Norma Manning; and cousins, Norman Braley and Ellwood Titcomb. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Linda Currier of Newport, Sandy Titcomb of Owls Head, and Lee Manning, Stephen Manning and Betsy Manning, all of Meredith, N.H.

A gathering will be held in honor of Thelma Sunday, March 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Bartlett Woods, 20 Bartlett Drive in Rockland. A spring graveside service to be held in Mountain View Cemetery in Camden will be announced.
