Avoid being towed: Overnight parking bans in effect

Thanksgiving holiday closings, shortened hours

Wed, 11/26/2014 - 1:00pm

Midcoast kids are out of school early  this week, and Thanksgiving is on Thursday, Nov. 27, signaling time for families and friends to gather around the table and enjoy meals and time together.

Most municipal offices will be closed both Thursday and Friday this week, and some businesses will either be closed or have shortened hours, to allow their employees to have some time off for the holiday.

The pre-holiday snow storm that has begun in all but northern-most Maine is also causing headaches and some changes in travel plans for some. With as much as a foot of snow possible by the time everybody wakes up on Thanksgiving Day morning, and many people entertaining out-of-town guests, local police are reminding people that an overnight street parking ban is in effect.

“The last we want to do is tow someone’s vehicle on Thanksgiving, but the public works crews will need to get the roads clear and they can’t do it effectively with cars parked on them,” said Camden Police Lt. Mike Geary.
