Studio Red takes the stage at Strom for spring performance

ROCKPORT — Just short of 300 dancers take the stage at the Strom Auditorium at Camden Hills Regional High School, Saturday, May 19, and Sunday, May 20, for Studio Red's production of What About Us, their ninth annual spring production.

Owner/instructor Vanessa Knause said the youngest dancer is two year old and range to adults.

"That's why we have three performances," she said, "so we can bring our younger group in and they don't have such a long performance to sit through. They have an exclusive Saturday, 2 p.m., show and they don't participate in the other two shows."

Knause said there will be Vinal Haven dancers included in the Saturday, 2 p.m., show, as well.

Other times for the spring performance of What About Us, is 6 p.m. on May, 19, and Sunday's show is 2 p.m. for Level I through Senior Company, adult classes and team dancers.

Knause said they started working on the show in January.

"The spring show has been growing every year," she said. "We try to teach strong dance technique and help build character and integrity at the same time."

Studio Red is at 143 Rankin Street in Rockland.

Knause said first priority is to the students themselves.

"Building a love and passion through dance, and building a discipline through dance is building a character in an individual,” she said. “Because of that they have been able to go off and do wonderful things. We have a dancer who is receiving a dance scholarship to Bennington, and we have dancers who have received $500 scholarships for a dance camp in Los Angles."

Knause said the dancers extend their dance base beyond this town and go off to bigger towns learning.
