WARREN — Sterling E. Norwood, 60, died unexpected Dec. 7, 2014, at his home. He was born June 30, 1954, in Rockland, to Ralph and Anna Thomas Norwood.

Sterling grew up in Warren and graduated from Medomak Valley High School in the Class of 1972. He married Cindy McKellar on Sept. 11, 1977.

He worked as a carpenter and builder for many years. He worked on many projects in Knox and Lincoln counties. He helped the town of Warren with their projects at the Warren Historical Building, the town gazebo, the walkway and ramp at the Second Congregational Church, and the Warren Library.

Sterling was well known and respected. He was a great storyteller and very old-fashioned, especially with electronics. He didn't know how to run the remote control for the television, but he could build a house. He was always dreaming about the next big project.

He always enjoyed watching The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie and the Boston Red Sox. He would often be found at Viking Lumber or Deb's Diner on Sundays with his "men's group." Sterling was very thoughtful, resourceful, hard working and was always willing to help anyone who needed assistance. He spent a lot of time in his shop building, tinkering and getting the wood fire going. He enjoyed old country music and old 60s music. He will missed greatly by his family and by all of his friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; and by his son, Samuel E. Norwood.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cindy Norwood of Warren; his daughter, Becky Norwood and her fiancé, Shaun Fairfield, of Warren; his sisters, Sally Edwards of Warren, Nancy Bryant and her husband, William, of Warren, Patricia Overlock and her husband, Eric, of Warren, and Hope Creighton and her husband, Jeff, of Thomaston; his brother, Albert Norwood of Indio, Calif.; his mother-in-law, Nola Studley of Warren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Robert Williams of Warren.

A service to celebrate Sterling's life will be held Monday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St. in Waldoboro. The Rev. Robin Honaker will officiate. Burial will be in Sawyer Cemetery in Warren.
