ROCKLAND — Simone Cecile Beaulieu, 94, passed peacefully on the morning of May 26, 2016, after a short period at the Sussman House.

Simone was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Berlin, N.H. The family moved to Canada in 1928. It was there she married Conrad, her husband of more than 50 years.

In 1947 they moved to Lawrence, Mass., where she started doing clothing alterations, eventually starting her own women's garment factory. The factory shut down after some years but that didn't stop her; Simone and Conrad bought a building in downtown Lawrence. They lived on the fourth floor, sewed on the third floor and sold the garments from inside the street level store.

In 1985 they retired to Hollywood, Fla., where she loved to sell her goods at craft fairs. She always enjoyed her leisure time at the area race tracks, and at one time even owned a couple of harness ponies. Simone was always entertaining and good for a story.

Simone moved to Maine in 2011, but she always missed Florida.

Simone was predeceased by one daughter, Louise Greer in 2010. She is survived by her son, James Beaulieu and his wife, Kathy Thyng, of Rockland; her grandchildren, Katie Beaulieu of Rockland, Danielle Beaulieu of Portland, Mike Greer and his wife, Johanna, of Tenafly, N.J., and Tracey Rose and her husband, Brian, of DeBary, Fla.; and her great-grandchildren, Jade Greer and Nathan and Sabrina Rose.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
