WARREN – Shirley F. Tidd, 80, passed away March 18, 2013, at Veterans Medical Center 1 at Togus after a brief illness.

Born in Hodgdon June 14, 1932, he was the son of Donald L. and Hetty Scott Tidd.

He was a 1951 graduate of Hodgdon High School.

Shirley served in the U.S. Army during the latter part of the Korean War.

He worked as a state potato inspector in the Corinna area. Returning to Houlton, he worked with Grossman's Lumber, and advanced with the company to become manager in their Presque Isle and Houlton stores.

After retiring in 1984, he began The Light House, a lighting store in Houlton, which he operated until selling that business to his nephew and wife, Dave and Jean Tidd, who still operate that store.

For the past 20 years, he resided in Warren, where he enjoyed retirement camping, fishing, hunting, snow sledding, ATV riding and playing cards with family and friends.

Shirley often spoke of many fond memories with his nieces and nephews, which included on the Tidd side, Don, Dave, Peter, Terrie Lee, Carleton, Barney, Wayne, Carol and Grady; and on the Stinson side, Kurt and Heidi.

Other than his parents, Shirley was predeceased by his son, Bentley Stinson Tidd. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wynne Lee Stinson Tidd of Warren; two brothers, Clifford Tidd and his wife, Penny, of Utah and Dana Tidd of Hodgdon; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Joel and Carol Stinson of Harpswell.

At Shirley's request no funeral services will be held.

Memorial donations may be made to an animal shelter of one's choice.
