It was another fine day on the Bristol pitch for the Lincolnville soccer squad — both weather and score-wise — as the Lynx prevailed against an aggressive Bristol eleven by a score of 6 to 0 on Monday, Sept. 26. The somewhat lopsided score did not reflect the number of times that Bristol threatened but was kept in check by the fine play of the LCS defense and especially of keeper Matt Kremin. Once in each half the Bristol offense nearly broke the LCS squad, with one effort forcing Kremin to dart back and forth across the goal mouth and block two point blank shots by the Bristol offense before stopper Owen Markowitz was able to clear the ball up field.

Offensively, the LCS forwards and midfielders moved the ball extremely well with the first score coming with almost 10 minutes gone when midfielder Eric Andrews sent a smooth pass to striker Yonah Wienges who dribbled by the Bristol defense and then cut a hard shot back towards the far post ricocheting the ball off it into the nets. It took another three-and-a-half minutes for Andrews and Wienges to strike again. This time Andrews intercepted a Bristol ball and found Wienges in the middle of the Bristol box. Wienges took one dribble to his right into open space and then hammered his shot home. The final goal of the first half came at the 28- minute mark, again initiated by Andrews who dribbled in on the left side and sent a pass through to winger Jackson Bernier who was deep in the box. Bernier took one dribble to draw defenders to him and then sent the ball across the goalmouth to a wide open Wienges who tipped the ball easily into the net.

The Lynx took up where they left off in the second half at the 37-minute mark when keeper Kremin punted a long ball up field. It was mis-headed by two Bristol defenders ending up at Wienges’ feet, and he promptly sent an outside right foot past the keeper from point blank range. Play went scoreless for 11 minutes until defender Rowan Hurlburt sent a ball up to Bernier near the box. After a dribble to set his shot up, Bernier nailed his shot past the goalie. Finally, with 10 minutes left to play, striker Hanna Hallundbaek slid a pass into winger Aiden Aselton who converted it for the last score of the game.

Overall it was a well played game by both teams, but in addition to the fine play of Kremin, who gained shut out honors, sweeper Wyatt Munson must be noted for his usual fine defensive effort, thwarting many a Bristol drive with his aggressive moves and strong clears. Markowitz was also a defensive standout as he roamed the LCS defensive end thwarting multiple Bristol thrusts before they could penetrate deeply into the LCS end.
