A strong Lincolnville eleven remained in the undefeated ranks with a hard fought victory against the scrappy and skilled Appleton Wildcats at Appleton on Wednesday, Sept. 21. While the Lynx tended to dominate play, the Wildcats made many a dangerous foray into the LCS defensive zone, and it was only the fine play of the Lynx’s defensive line — led by Wyatt Munson and Owen Markowitz —that allowed the LCS keeper, Matt Kremin, to have a relatively easier day.

Nonetheless, he roamed the box aggressively to cut off a number of Appleton through passes and handled everything that came his way with his usual aplomb.
It took LCS 10 minutes to record their first tally on a fine play by midfielder Eric Andrews. Having brought the ball to the end line, Andrews drove towards the goal drawing defenders his way and allowing winger Jordan Peasley to find a hole in the defense just to the right of the penalty spot. Andrews found him with an accurate and elegant short pass that Peasley quickly chipped over both defense and keeper.

It took another 11 minutes for LCS to strike again when Andrews intercepted a ball just outside of the right center of the goal box and cut his shot back through a crowd to nestle just inside the far post. After the half, Andrews initiated LCS’s final goal at the 34-minute mark sending a sweet pass to winger Jackson Bernier who quickly converted it for the tally. Appleton gained one back just before the end of the game on a penalty call in the LCS box that resulted in a penalty kick. The Wildcat’s kicker sent a nicely placed ball inside the LCS right post. Kremin made a fine dive to his right, but with the ball just inches from his fingertips, the goal was inevitable. LCS returns to action on the Lincolnville pitch on Thursday.

Middle School Girls Soccer: Medomak 8, Searsport 2

Searsport took the early lead in the game, 1-0, but MMS did not stop. Lizzi Swan scored two minutes later on a pass from Stephanie Morse. Then six minutes later Lizzi scored again, giving MMS their first lead in the game, and MMS never looked back.

With 27:30 gone in the first Stephanie Morse found the next and gave MMS the lead of 3-1. During the second half, Searsport was able to score another goal making it 3-2. MMS then put the heat on. With about 7 minutes gone in the second half, Abby Lash scored giving MMS a 4-2 lead. Then less then a minute later Autumn Ripley scored. Then another 10 minutes went by and Kaia OBrien scored from a pass from Ruth Havener. Then five minutes later Hannah Lee scored, then with one more minute off the clock, Ruth scored for herself giving MMS the lead of 8-2.

Great defense was played by Eliza Nelson, Hannah Lee and Stephanie Morse. Great passing by the numerous front line players and midfielders for MMS.

At Dexter, Barrett Grant scored a hat-trick in leading the Vikings to a hard-fought victory over the Tigers.

Ethan Boutilier led Dexter with a first half hat-trick of his own, including goals at 35:41, 13:55 and 3:11 to go. Despite the strong start, after each score the Vikings fought back to tie the game up. Connor Kneeland (1 goal, assist) scored with 27:04 to go to tie it the first time off a Liam MacMillan pass. Then MacMillian scored the first of his two goals off a Grant feed, followed by a Grant goal with 1:21 to go in the half off a MacMillan feed.

After a back-and-forth first half, Searsport was able to gain control of the ball and proved too much to handle in the second half. Grant added the game winner with 28:27 remaining in the game off a punt from goalkeeper Ben Powell’s foot, followed by a MacMillan scoring off a Kneeland corner kick and then Grant finishing up the hat-trick unassisted with 11:18 remaining in the game.

Powell minded the net and overcame first half difficulties to finish with four saves on eight Dexter shots. Matthew Richards was in goal for Dexter and made nine saves on 19 Searsport shots.

With the win, the Vikings improved to 4-1 while the Tigers fell to 0-6.
