BELFAST — A Searsport man faces a number of charges following the May 16 kidnapping of his estranged spouse.

Jason C. Moulton, 34, was arrested after traveling to his estranged partner’s home just before 11 p.m., in a vehicle driven by his mother, according to Belfast Police Sergeant John Gibbs.

Moulton was already prohibited from contacting the victim due to a protection from abuse order and current conditions of release.

After arriving at the residence Moulton entered without the consent of his victim, Gibbs said.

Once inside, Moulton physically forced the victim and a toddler into the backseat of his vehicle, where his assault on the woman continued.

It is unclear whether Moulton’s mother was aware of the situation during the incident, and no charges have been filed against her.

A neighbor witnessed Moulton forcing the mother and child into his vehicle, and alerted Belfast Police, who, “responded immediately,” Gibbs said.

Officer Jason Couture was able to intercept Moulton on the same street the victim’s residence is located on, blocking the vehicle in with his cruiser.

“The rear door came open while the vehicle was still in motion,” Gibbs said of the mother and child’s hurried escape from Moulton.

Moulton was arrested and charged with burglary, two counts of domestic violence assault, two counts of violating a protection from abuse order, kidnapping and violating conditions of release. He remains in custody.

Moulton is scheduled to appear in court July 7.
