Search under way for another stolen Rockport truck

ROCKPORT — Police and firefighters responded to a car accident on South Street in Rockport early this morning and when they got there, the driver had apparently fled, and then drove away in a blue Ford 250 from a nearby driveway. The pickup has a Sugarloaf sticker on the back and police are looking for it now.

The subsequent investigation indicated that the driver was operating a stolen vehicle from Jefferson when he crashed on South Street.

Rockport Police Officer Jake Grinnell had been driving on Route 17 keeping an eye out for the stolen vehicle. He spotted it and turned around to follow it. He lost sight of the vehicle, which turned onto South Street.

The trail of stolen vehicles is under investigation by Lincoln and Knox county sheriff departments, in conjunction with Rockland and Rockport police departments.

Apparently, the white Ford 150 pickup that was stolen earlier this week from the Tradewinds Motor Inn, in Rockland, was stolen again last night, and traveled to Union. It is thought that the truck went to Jefferson, where another vehicle was stolen, and is the same one that landed on South Street in Rockport this morning.
