Maine Fishermen’s Forum

Scholarships for Maine commercial fishing industry families

Mon, 02/23/2015 - 8:15pm

The Maine Fishermen’s Forum, to be held in Rockport March 6, 7 and 8, is offering scholarship opportunities to students from Maine’s commercial fishing industry.  Applicants must be in at least their second year of college (or trade school) and have an immediate family member involved in Maine’s fishing industry.

Prior winners of this scholarship are not eligible.

Scholarship applications are available online at mainefishermensforum.org or by emailing requests to Chilloa Young, forum coordinator, at chilloa@taxbracket.com.

An official transcript must accompany the application.

The deadline is March 3 for this year’s drawing, which will be held Saturday, March 7, at the Samoset Resort in Rockport.

To date, more than $284,000 in scholarships have been awarded, and in celebration of the Forum’s 40th Anniversary, the board of directors is hoping to award even more than the $30,000 raised at last year’s Forum.

There is a scholarship auction to be held Friday, March 6, from which all revenues will be awarded as scholarships.

Donations of items to sell, gift certificates, or cash donations to this nonprofit are always welcome.
