AURORA, Colo. — Ruth Isabel Call Farrell passed away peacefully June 12, 2015, with her loving family at her side.

Born Jan. 3, 1927, in Rockland, she was the daughter of Dewey R. and Lillian Bell Call and the stepdaughter of Bernice Nason Call.

Educated locally, she was a 1945 graduate of Rockland High School. She waitressed at the Thorndike Hotel, and they sponsored her as a Miss Rockland in the 1948 Sea Goddess Contest.

She married Foster E. Farrell on July 1, 1949. He died in 2011.

Ruth was a seamstress at Van Baalen's in the 1950s and a member of the Junior Women's League. Ruth began working in the Knox County Registry of Deeds, later serving as registrar, and retired after 21years. In the late 1980s, she served as voter registrar for Rockland. One of her greatest enjoyments for many years was assisting at Madelyn Drinkwater's School of Dance.
Ruth was a 10-year volunteer at the Knox Center for Long Term Care, secretary of the Retired Registrars Association of Maine, a member of the Ladies Guild of the Congregational Church of Rockland, where she worked on church fairs and rummage sales. After their 50th class Reunion, she helped organize the yearly reunions. Ruth was the volunteer director for the Maine Lobster Festival for many years, and a Red Hat Society-Coastal Critters member.

As a lobsterman's wife, Ruth enjoyed spending summers off the coast of Spruce Head on Andrews and Pond islands. She was quite a traveler, visiting family and friends from Maine to Hawaii, Germany and Paris, France. She liked gardening, crocheting and knitting, and helping others. Ruth was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends.

In addition to her husband Foster, Ruth was predeceased by a son, Kirton Eugene Farrell in 1952; her brothers, Robert Call and his wife, Barbara, Charles Call and his wife, Alice, in World War II, and Franklin D. Call; a stepbrother, Roland Caldwell and his wife, Joan; her brothers-in-law, James Farrell and his wife, Ruth, and Neal Farrell and his wife, Rose; her sister-in-law, Virginia Morang and her husband, Donald.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie Welt and her husband, Neil, of Aurora, Colo.; her sister, Jeanne and her husband, Leroy Bennett; her sister-in-law, Geraldine Call; her grandsons and their wives, James and Linda Welt, and Jason and Michelle Welt; her great-grandchildren, Montgomery, Christopher, Ashlie and Nathaniel Welt; her nieces and nephews, Jon and Jerry Call, Lucinda and her husband, Ronald Gelinas, JoAnne Call, Judith McCallum, Darren Bennett and his wife, Heather, Stacey Klingenburg and her husband, Stephen, Barry Caldwell, Jill Delaney, Bradley Farrell, Angie Everman, Marsha McCray, Crystal Reynolds and her husband, Steve, Neala Peterson and her husband, Mark, Terry Morang, Colleen Morang, Kelly Sprowl and her husband, Dale, and Donald Morang and his partner, Michael Martineau; as well as many grand and great nieces, nephews and cousins; her dearest friends, Madelyn Drinkwater and Florence Hammond, along with countless others.

A celebration of Ruth's life will be held Monday, Aug. 3 at 5 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland.
