WARREN — Roy Walston, of Warren, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 16, 2017. He was in the company of his wife, Teresa Walston, and her daughter Felicia, at the time of his passing. He was 60 years young. 

Son of Helga Baumgartener, Roy was born in Denver Colorado, on July 29, 1957. He was raised by his mother, in California, alongside his brothers, Glenn Walston and Michael Lucero. Roy graduated from Mark Keppel High School, then joined the United States Army at age 18. Always ready for a new adventure, Roy was stationed in Germany, North Carolina, Hawaii, Alaska, Texas, and Korea. His 22 years of service in the military was just one of his many proud accomplishments.

SFC Walston then went on to become a Corrections Officer, and at the time of his death, Roy was employed with the Buldoc Unit, of the Maine State Prison. During his 20 years of service with the state of Maine, he also obtained his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. Roy had received numerous commendations, awards, and medals, across his 42 years of dedication. Roy is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Walston, and her two children, Felicia and Basil Robinson. Roy was a steadfast family man, always committed to being a strong provider.

Roy is also survived by his 2 children, Damion and Stephanie Walston. He took great pride in their life's journey together. Lovingly known as “Papa Roy”, being a Grandfather to his 3 grandsons, Sebastian Olson (8), Caspian Olson (3), and Gideon Olson (13 days old), brought him the greatest joy. 

Roy was predeceased by his older brother, Glenn Walston, and his niece, young Erica Walston. He is survived by his mother, Helga Baumgartener, and his younger brother, Michael Lucero.

Roy simply loved to live his life. He enjoyed travel, great food, good spirits, and close friends. Skilled in debate, Roy could argue any point until the sun came down! His sense of humor, wit, and sarcasm, were matched only by his love and loyalty to those in his close circle.

Roy doted upon his pets, paying special attention to his dogs, and always treating them as the babies of his family. Alex, Sassy, and Tonto, to name just a recent few, were his privileged pups!

Roy loved to ride his motorcycle. He liked Star Trek, spooky movies, rock n' roll music, and country line dancing. Roy also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and boating. Being a home owner was another source of great pride for Roy, and he was always in the throes of another home improvement project.

Roy devoted his life to his country and his heart to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of strength and honor for all the young men in his family. Rest in Peace Papa Roy.

First Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter, and Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. ALL are invited to come, and share a memory or story about Roy.
