THOMASTON — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office investigated a Tuesday afternoon crash involving a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian at the intersection of Main and Beechwood streets in Thomaston.

Deputy Nathaniel Jack was assigned to investigate the crash due to the pedestrian being a Thomaston town employee.

According to Jack and the preliminary investigation, Louise Demers, 67, of Rockport, was in the crosswalk when a 2003 Peterbilt tractor trailer was making a left-hand turn onto Main Street from Beechwood Street. The driver of the truck, Leo Pilote, 54, of Loudon, N.H., apparently did not see Demers as she crossed in front of him in the crosswalk.

The accident occurred May 17 around 12:59 p.m. Main Street in downtown Thomaston was closed for about four hours while the crash was forensically mapped by Knox County Sheriff’s deputies.

Demers was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for non-life threatening injuries, according to Jack in a news release Tuesday evening. The crash remains under investigation, and Jack said that no criminal charges have been filed.

The Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of Lincoln County Sheriff's Office to reconstruct to crash. The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit was also called to assist with the investigation.
