And the ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show,’ too

In Rockport, a very scary haunted campground

ROCKPORT — Where can you find the Chop House, Torture Chamber and the Electric Avenue Chamber? It’s all waiting for you at the Megunticook Haunted Campground at 620 Commercial St. (Route 1) in Rockport. Campground General Manager Paul Herard gave the scoop on what’s in store for Halloween.

“Coming up this weekend, Oct. 25 and 26, and we are having the First Annual Haunted Campground featuring haunted hayrides, a haunted village and movies. I got the idea last year when I was closing up the campground and I thought, gee, this would make a great haunted campground, especially when you’re all alone and things start to get creepy.”

    How will this work?

“We’re going to have the haunted hayride first that goes through the campground and will take 10 to 15 minutes. And we’ll end up at the haunted village where people will walk through the village. There’s going to be tarps set up to make hallways, narrow hallways that will be tight to get through and we’ll be scaring them all along the way.”

And there will be a special showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show?

“On Oct. 25 there will be a special showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. It will start at 9:30 p.m. and it will be an adult-only show. You can bring any props you can think of, dress anyway you want. We love the mess. You can bring anything you want and get as messy as you want to get. We will show it at the outside amphitheater right here at the campground.”

Is this themed more for adults or kids?

“There will be face painting for kids and kids can go through it, but it’s going to be geared more for the adults. It’s going to be very scary, we are going for the height of scariness that we can possibly get. If your kids are okay with being really scared then this is perfect. The admission price is $10 for adults and $5 for kids under 12 and that price does include the Rocky Horror Picture Show next Friday.”
