Tue, 05/26/2015 - 10:00pm

ROCKPORT — A number of citizens have stepped forward to run for open seats on the Select Board and Library Committee this June, making for competitive races. To know these candidates better, Penobscot Bay Pilot and the town of Rockport are teaming up to hold a candidates' forum, May 28, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Rockport Opera House downstairs meeting room.

This is the chance for Rockport residents to meet the candidates, and hear what their positions are on various municipal topics. The public is encouraged to attend the forum. It will also be recorded and televised on Local Access Channel 22.

Former Knox County Commissioner and Select Board member, longtime Rockport resident and business owner Bob Duke will moderate the forum. Duke annually moderates Rockport's Town Meeting, to be held this year June 10.

Elections will take place June 9, at the polls, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., in the Rockport Town Office Richardson Room.

Two seats opened on the Select Board currently filled by Charlton Ames and Ken McKinley. Ames is not running again, but McKinley is seeking reelection to his position. Also running for Select Board are Owen Casas and John Viehman.

The three candidates will vie for two three-year terms.

The Library Committee has two open seats with four candidates. They include incumbent Stephanie Lash, along with Emily Lusher, Sarah Shepherd and Eliza Haselton.
