Rockport’s Budget Committee, Select Board to talk about new library proposal

    ROCKPORT — Selectmen will meet with the town’s Budget Committee at 4 p.m., Aug. 23, to talk about the proposed warrant article that may appear before voters in November, asking them for consider spending up to $2 million on the construction of a new library.

    The workshop will take place in the Rockport Opera House Meeting Room.

    The Select Board voted Aug. 8 to put an article before voters on the November warrant asking them to approve borrowing money through a bond not to exceed $2 million for a new public library to be built in accordance with the concepts presented by the ad hoc library committee. 

    Total library construction costs are pegged  the approximate cost of $4 million. The project entails a public/private effort to raise $2 million from the taxpayers and $2 million from fundraising.
