ROCKPORT – The Rockport Fire Department is teaming up with the American Red Cross to help protect its community. According to a press release from Fire Chief Jason Peasley, beginning today, Aug. 25. until the end of September, residents can request free smoke alarms by visiting the Maine website of the American Red Cross at redcross.org/me and click on “Home Fire Preparedness Campaign.”

Everyone qualifies for the free program and income is not a consideration to participate. All that you need to do is go online and complete the form to get as many alarms as your home requires, said Peasley in the release.

The new 10-year life smoke detectors will be installed at no cost by American Red Cross “certified’ installers after a brief in-home survey. The installation team will also provide information on home fire safety, as well as other emergency preparedness topics.

Members of the fire department will come to your home, review the locations where alarms need to be installed and install them, said Peasley.

For more information, contact the Rockport Fire Department at 236-4437 or email Peasley at firechief@town.rockport.me.us.
