ROCKPORT – A two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon, Sept. 16, around 1:16 p.m., stopped traffic in both directions on Rockland Street (Route 17), near Porter Street, sending one of the drivers and a passenger to the hospital.

According to Rockport Police Sgt. Jim Moore, the crash occurred when Alyssa Spankis, 33, of Portland, was traveling west on Route 17. She attempted to make a u-turn in the middle of Route 17 and missed, and collided with Faye Swanholm, 66, of Readfield, who was driving in the opposite direction.

Spankis was issued a summons for reversing her direction without adequate vision, according to Moore.

Swanholm and her passenger were transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport by Rockland EMS. Both were treated for their injuries and later released.

Spankis was driving a black 2004 Ford 150 pickup truck and Swanholm a blue 2106 Subaru sedan. Both cars were disabled in the crash and were towed away from the scene by Camden Exxon.

Rockport firefighters managed traffic control at the intersection and quickly cleared the crash scene.

Camden Police Officer Wes Butler also assisted at the accident scene.
