ROCKLAND — The Rockland Recreation building will be buzzing with activity all weekend as the Rec hosts the 2015 Girls Invitational Tournament for fifth and sixth grade girls.

Ten teams from Rockland, Five Town (Camden Area), Medomak, Belfast, Waterville, Dexter, Oak Hill, Mount View, China rec, and Brewer will keep the place hoping through the championship game late Sunday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. start time scheduled.

The Tournament got underway Friday night with the Belfast team taking on host Rockland to open the tournament. That was followed up by Five Town taking on Medomak Valley.

In the skills competition the winners were, Passing Skills, Anya Babb-Brott (Five Town); 3-point Shooting, Olivia Dougherty (Rockland); Foul Shooting, Lilly Mitchell (Belfast); and the Hot Shot Team, Rockland (Siena Montgomery, Jessica Watkinson and Grace Cody).

In the end Rockland sent Dexter to the losers bracket in game 15 and ended up facing them again in the championship round where Rockland captured the title with a 33-25 win over Dexter.

Rockland Rec team members are, sixth graders, Grace Woodman, Sienna Montgomery Jessica Watkinson, Autumn Harvey, Katherine Freeman, Olivia Doughty, Caleigh Pease and Grace Cody; fifth graders, Madison Benner, Anna Kingsbury, Oivia Kurr and Anna Campbell. The team was coached by Jeff Woodman and Joanne Montgomery.

Rockland 40, Belfast 18 

The Rockland girls led by Grace Woodman with 24 points came out strong and never let up as they rolled to the win. That pits them against Mount View at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

Other scorers for the Rockland squad were, Sienna Montgomery with six points, Jessica Watkinson four; and Olivia Dougherty, Autumn Harvey and Anna Campbell with two points each.

For Belfast, Lillie Mitchell had nine points; Kiara Doolan three; and Hailee Lindelof, Madison Farris and Sarah Fuller two each.
