Rockland Police asking for public’s help to identify driver in hit-and-run

    ROCKLAND - The Rockland Police Department is seeking the public’s help with identifying a vehicle that struck a woman in a wheelchair early Sunday morning on South Main Street (Route 73) in Rockland and left the scene without stopping.

    According to police, the hit-and-run accident occurred on May 21 at approximately 1:29 a.m. just north of the Maritime Farm Store on South Main Street. The victim was struck from behind while operating her wheelchair.

    The woman, who was seriously injured, is currently being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland.  

    Rockland Police have confirmed on its Facebook page that they are looking for a dark colored sedan which should have lower center and left front damage to it from the impact.

    Police are asking that anyone living on South Main Street (Route 73) or in the vicinity contact them if they heard or observed anything, or have video cameras that monitor the street or parking lots.
