Rockland Pack 206 receives National Summertime Pack Award

Tue, 09/02/2014 - 11:00am

ROCKLAND — Cub Scouting activities traditionally happen throughout the school year, but the scouts from Pack 206 are committed to year round scouting. Their commitment recently rewarded them with the National Summertime Pack Award.

The requirements to earn this reward from the Boy Scouts of America include having at least 50 percent of all the scouts in a pack participate in at least one pack event in each month of the summer.  With school being out and families vacationing and travelling, organizing and carrying through on activities is difficult.

Activities these boys participated in included: Back yard camp outs, marching in parades, Fun Pack Weekend at the Camp Bomazeen Boy Scout Camp, and building and launching model rockets.

Pack 206 will be hosting a Join Night and ice cream social for boys in grades 1 through 5, on Friday, Sept. 5, 5:30 p.m., in the South School Cafeteria in Rockland.

Registration should only take a few minutes and costs $35 ($10 for the rest of 2014 and $25 for 2015). Optional subscription to Boys Life Magazine cost an additional $14 ($2 for 2014 and $12 for 2015).

Some events planned for the upcoming year include:

Pinewood Derby Racing
Scouting for Food
Ice Fishing

Popcorn Fundraising
Picnics

Barbeques

Parades

And of course... Camping!
