BELFAST — Robert R. Young, 82, passed away October 1, 2017 at his home in Belfast. He was born in Belfast, Maine, on April 11, 1935, the son of Frederick and Belle Young. He grew up working with his dad on the water, clamming, then lobster fishing, which eventually led to the family business known as Young's Lobster Pound. He met the love of his life in high school, Claire Young, they were married for almost 62 years. They raised a family of three, a son, Robert F. Young of Troy, a daughter, Dianne Parker of Belfast, and son, Raymond Young of Belfast. When Bob's parents decided to retire, he and Claire took over the business and moved it down to the waterfront where it is today run by Raymond and Dianne.

He became a Master Mason of the Phoenix Lodge in Belfast in February 1958, and was proud to be a member of the Anah Temple Shrine, where he has many close friends. Later in years, in the off season, he and Claire would take a week or so to travel, (usually someplace warm) to unwind and experience new things. They both loved being on the water, and fishing was a big part of that. You could say it was in his blood, maybe a little extra salt as well. From lobster fishing in Penobscot Bay, to salmon fishing in the Narraguagus River, to ice fishing on Half Moon Pond, to deep sea fishing in Mexico, he didn't care where. He loved it all.

Bob served two terms on the Belfast City Council. He was civic minded and did his best to do right by the people that elected him.

In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his wife Claire, a sister, Belle Marie Snow and son in law, Kerry Parker. He is survived by a sister, Polly Clements, his three children, Robert F. Young, Dianne M. Parker, and Raymond E. Young and his wife Katrina; grandchildren, Jason Parker, Samantha Parker, Amanda Young-Williams, Kayla Young Hemsley, Ben Young, Bryan Young; great-grandchildren, Malik, Sawyer and Dorothy; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Viewing will be Sunday, October 8 from 3:00 -5:00 p.m. A Masonic funeral service will be held at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast, Monday, October 9, at 3:00 p.m..
