Riley School offers Discovery Camp for April Vacation, April 16 -20

Thu, 04/05/2018 - 2:15pm

Riley School offers Discovery Camp for April Vacation, April 16 -20. Each day’s activities will include Outdoor Exploration, Field Science, Movement Arts and Yoga, and Studio Arts.

The program will explore the landscape and shore of the campus, learn about the local flora and fauna, study animal and bird tracks on the ground or in snow, build debris shelters, and watch for signs of spring approaching.

The Movement Arts segment includes creative and healthy movement in the outdoors, as well as yoga and cooperative games.

In Studio Arts, students will explore and create with a variety of media under the guidance of experienced artists and teachers.

The exact flow of each day will depend on the children themselves and weather.

One of the special aspects of Discovery Camp at Riley is the multi-age experience, and the balance of facilitated learning with free play and exploration.

The children engage in organized activities but they are also active co-creators and of their day.  The cozy size, beautiful campus and flexibility of the camp and school allows for more genuine connections with ourselves, each other, and our environment.

Discovery Camp will be lead by Maria Orlova, Riley parent and registered yoga instructor.

With a background in social work, Maria has been teaching Movement Arts and Yoga for children of all ages for over 14 years. She is an avid naturalist and gardener and loves to share her love for the great outdoors through exploration, learning and games. This is her third year of directing and facilitating Riley camps. Maria will be joined by other experienced and talented facilitators throughout the week.

             Discovery Camp runs Monday, April 16 – Friday, April 20; 8:30 a.m - 3:30 p.m. Tuition is $250/week. Single Day: $55. Half day options: $30.

*Full week is preferred, but alternative schedules can be arranged on an individual basis. For more information and to register, please contact the Riley School:info@rileyschool.org or call (207) 596-6405.
