CUSHING — Richard L. Mills Jr., 48, died unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at his home.

Born in Rockland Sept. 13, 1964, he was the son of Mary and Dana Lear and the late Richard L. Mills Sr.

Richard attended Georges Valley High School and was employed in the past with Haskell Well Drilling and Water Treatment.

Richard was a loving and caring son, father, brother, uncle and friend. He had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing. His favorite days were sitting in his tree stand or at the lake. He was always excited to tell stories of the fish he and his daughter caught. His proudest accomplishment was building his own home; a place he dreamed of, where he could see and hear wildlife in his backyard daily.

He had a very giving heart, donating toys to charities for Christmas, as it was always his desire to make sure children had a gift under their tree. He was always willing to help friends and family members.

Richard was a long-time dedicated Patriots fan, looking forward to Sunday games. His favorite pastimes were playing cribbage, pool, horseshoes and darts with his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his parents; his daughter, Alisha Mills of Waldoboro; his sisters, Shelly Temple and her husband, John, of Thomaston and Melissa Post and her husband, Darren, of Spruce Head; his brothers, Steven Lear and his wife, Anne, of Nashua, N.H., Craig Lear and his wife, Amy, of Warren and David Lear and his companion, Tanya, of Springvale; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at Nativity Lutheran Church in Rockport. The Rev. Jerry LiaBraaten will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knox County Fish & Game, P.O. Box 414, Union, ME 04862.
