ROCKLAND — Readers of all ages will explore ways to stay healthy as Rockland Public Library presents "On your Mark, Get Set, Read" as the theme of its 2016 Summer Reading Program.

This free program is open to kids, teens, and adults, according to Jean Young, children's librarian.

Registration begins June 25 and continues through the first week in July. The Summer Reading Program will finish on August 13. All participants must be registered in the program.

There are programs planned for children from age two through the sixth grade, as well as separate programs for teens and adults. Themes include heath, nutrition, sports, crafts, games, drawing and painting, and gardening.

"Our children's program will explore sports and fitness this summer, with activities that include group games, physical challenges, and art projects," Young said in a news release. "Entertainment will include local children's authors, area artists, visitors from the animal shelter, singer Rob Duquette, and will feature the Magic Show of Danny Baker and a "Make your own Sundae" party as the kids' program finale.

Once again, the Knox Masonic Lodge is generously offering "bikes for books," and young participants have an opportunity to win one of eight bicycles!

Area teens are encouraged to participate in "Get in the Game: READ!" the library's teen summer library program, from June 25 to August 13. We invite young people to come to the library and read for prizes, as well as take part in special challenges offered throughout the summer. It helps them to keep up with their reading, so they don't fall behind during the summer.

Adults are invited to take part in "Exercise Your Mind — READ", a Summer Reading Program which will explore a variety of ways to improve health and well-being, including fitness, nutrition, and stress relief.

We'll provide fun for adults while they may learn something new, or just enjoy getting together with other people. Adults in the program can take on a fitness challenge, try meditation, or learn to cook healthier foods. The adult program will culminate in a "books and coffee" gathering on August 13.
