SPRUCE HEAD — Rebecca J. York-Bart, 46, a resident of Silver Spring, Md., wife, mother, sister and friend to many, died unexpectedly, June 17, 2014, at her beloved family homestead.

Born in Rockland on April 13, 1968, she was the daughter of Donald C. and Vivian Falla York. While growing up in Spruce Head, she attended local schools and was an honors graduate of Rockland District High School. She went on to graduate from Mt. Holyoke College and later earned master's degrees from Columbia University and the University of Maryland.

Rebecca began her career in Internet services with Qualitas, a web distribution company and later worked with PLS Logistics. For the past 16 years she worked as a senior technical manager with AOL. A colleague stated, "Becky was highly respected for her intelligence and management capabilities at AOL."

For several years she worked with the Animal Refuge League in Maryland and volunteered with the Avon Breast Cancer Walk.

An avid cyclist, she completed two marathons and participated in the Washington, D.C., Aids Benefit Ride.

Becky enjoyed painting, photography, physical fitness and weight training.

Predeceased by her parents; and a brother, Michael H. York; Becky is survived by her husband, Joshua Bart; and her son, Samuel G. Bart, both of Silver Spring, Md.; her sister, Janine D. Heath of Pembroke, Mass.; her brother, Peter York of Spruce Head; her father-in-law, Dr. Kenneth J. Bart of Potomac, Md.; her steadfast friends, Cindy Aserkoff and Lynn Marrello, both of Silver Spring, Md.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 16 at 1 p.m. at Ocean View Cemetery on Spruce Head Road in South Thomaston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rebecca J. York Memorial Scholarship, c/o Oceanside East High School, 500 Broadway, Rockland, ME 04841.
