SWANVILLE - Raymond John Ingles passed away on Oct. 13, 2016, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born in Northport on March 27, 1927, the son of Mervin Ingles and Clarissa (Webb) Ingles.

He was a local longshoreman and independent woods contractor.

On Nov. 17, 1945, he married Helen Friss of Hudson, N.Y. Together they lived many years on Cedar Street in Belfast before self-building in the late 1970s a home on Swan Lake in Swanville. Raymond was known for his strong opinions and independent ways.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Mary Anne (Willette) Ingles of Bangor; his grandson, Matthew Ingles and his wife, Martha (Hurlbert) Ingles of East Rochester, N.H.; and his granddaughter, Laura E. Ingles of Bangor; as well as his nephews, Arthur Abbot and his wife, Joanne, of Belfast, Raymond Abbott and wife, Pam, of Pasadena, Md., and Richard Finkle of Hudson, N,Y. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Helen; and his sisters, Caroline Ingles Abbott and Rita Ingles Finkle.

Interment will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. at Smart Cemetery; a gathering will be held following the service at the Hutchinson Center in Belfast.
