Ralph ‘Junior’ Brazier Jr., obituary

WALDOBORO — Ralph A. “Junior” Brazier Jr., 79, a lifelong resident of Waldoboro, passed away June 19, 2015, at Cove's Edge in Damariscotta. Ralph was born March 31, 1936, in Waldoboro to Ralph and Inez (Wallace) Brazier. He grew up in Waldoboro and graduated from Waldoboro High School in the Class of 1954.

He and his family lived in Rockland for a few years during World War II, while his father was a butcher at A & P.

Junior started working at the age of 10 with a paper route. He moved to Back Cove in Waldoboro to live with his grandparents, Felton and Minnie Wallace. He worked digging clams while he lived with them. Junior worked several jobs over the years, including for a barrel shop with Vinal in Warren, the Button Factory in Waldoboro and his cottage care service. He later worked for the Maine State Prison as a guard and was in charge of the woodshop as a supervisor. He retired from the prison after 18 years of service. Lastly, he ran Brazier Wire Products, making lobster traps and wire feeders for 18 years.

He thought a lot of his Maine coon cat, Billy Jo, and had a very happy marriage to Carol Brazier for 26 years. Junior and Carol enjoyed many adventures on land, visiting 27 states and seven provinces in Canada, and on sea for four cruises.

He was a member of the Perry Greene Boy Scouts. He was a member of King Solomon's Lodge #61 AF & AM, where he was a past master and district representative. He was past high priest of King Solomons Chapter #8 in Rockland. He was past president of the Midcoast Shrine Club. He was also district deputy grand mason of Grand Lodge of Maine, Chapter for 10 years as master and in Council. He was a Shriner with Kora Temple in Lewiston and served as a potentate aid and was a member of the Funsters as "Fred Flinstone." He was previously a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Waldoboro, Jefferson and finally in Rockland with Grace Chapter #93 along with his wife.

His best friend was Sonny Burns.

He attended the Nativity Lutheran Church in Rockport, where he served on the council. He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Russell Brazier Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Brazier of Waldoboro; his brothers, Roger Brazier of Waldoboro and Peter Brazier of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; several nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends, near and far.

A Masonic service will be held Thursday, June 25 at 10 a.m. at the German Protestant Cemetery in Waldoboro followed by a time of visitation then a graveside service at 11 a.m., led by the Rev. Jerry Liabraaten.
