BELFAST — Ralph John Dunsford, 90, died March 31, 2014, at Harbor Hill in Belfast, joining his predeceased wife and two daughters. Born in Wayland, Mass., on Aug. 15, 1923, he was the son of William A. and Lulu A. Reynolds.

Following high school graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed aboard the USS Midway. He married the love of his life, Barbara May Titus, on Sept. 25, 1942, in Sudbury, Mass. They raised a family and devoted their lives to each other for more than 69 years before Barbara's death in 2012.

Ralph was a jack-of-all-trades, moving up and down the east coast while raising his family. He worked as the captain of the fishing vessel Lulu Belle on Cape Cod, ran a farm in Liberty, Maine, and ran the maintenance department for the Casa Marina Hotel in Key West, Fla. Once the family retired to Maine, he enjoyed spending his free time working in his wood shop, painting seascapes and working on odd construction jobs. He was always finding some way to keep busy, but was never too busy to go out in his boat and see if he could get a bite or two.

Predeceased by his wife, Barbara Dunsford; and his two daughters, Candice Young and Sandra Wentworth; he is survived by is his grandson, Ralph Young and his wife, Ali, of Buxton; his granddaughter, LuAnne Wright and her partner, Adam, of Belfast; his great-grandchildren, Brian, Justin and Dylan Wright of Belfast; his special friend, Patricia Johnson of Belfast; and his special furry baby, Daisy, who will forever miss her Daddy.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff at Harbor Hill, his nursing staff from Kno-Wal-Lin and his long-time physician, Dr. Thomas Maycock, and his office staff for their never ending patience and compassion. We will be forever grateful for everything that was done to make his last several years as productive and comfortable as possible.

Interment will be held later at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are with Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Camden.
