ROCKPORT and BANGOR — Ralph G. Hill, 88, passed away Jan. 16, 2015, at the Sussman House in Rockport. He was born in Calais on May 22, 1926, the son of Norman and Geneva Hill.

Ralph graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School in 1943. He served as an electrician second class in the Navy during World War II, from 1943 – 1946. He was married to Marjorie L Haskins in 1947.

Ralph retired from the Singer Sewing Machine Co. after 31 years and ran his own sewing machine repair shop until the age of 82. At that time, he fully retired and relocated to Rockport.

Ralph was a member of many community and fraternal organizations. These included past commander of Sherman Post #3 in Calais, American Legion Post 2015 in Bangor, former member of St. Croix Lodge #46 in Calais, a member of Ralph J. Pollard Lodge #217 in Orrington and Anah Shriners, which included the Mini-bike unit in Bangor and the Good Sam Camping Club.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 67 years; six children, Dean Hill and his wife, Mary Beth, of Waynesboro, Va., Karen Higgins and her husband, Philip, of Rockport, Beverly Polley and her husband, Harold, of Eddington, Dennis Hill and his wife, Debra, of Bangor, Kathi Heath and her husband, Scott, of Glenburn, and Brian Hill and his partner, Dana Garner, of Scarborough; two brothers, Gerald Hill of Warren and Norman Hill of New Market, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday, Jan. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. in Bangor, with a masonic service at 6:30 p.m. conducted by the officers and members of Ralph J. Pollard Lodge. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 21 11 a.m. at Brookings-Smith. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., following the service.
