HOPE — Rae I. Perry, 73, of Hope, died May 4, 2017, at the Sussman House in Rockport. Born Aug. 8, 1943, in Randolph, she was the daughter of George and Ernestine (Page) Ingraham, and was a graduate of Waldoboro High School. On Sept. 3, 1960, she married Thomas Perry in Rockland.

Rae had been employed as a private caregiver and also worked at the Catherine Brown Home in Hope. She had an outgoing personality and enjoyed traveling, camping, kayaking and listening to country music.

As a child, it was known that Rae possessed the unique ability to rehabilitate wildlife after she raised two orphaned bear cubs and released them to their natural habitat. Throughout her life, Rae was known as the expert when there was a need to rehabilitate any type of wildlife from her home, including owls, skunks, squirrels, deer and even a puffin that required an endless supply of shiners for food until it was strong enough to be released.

Rae was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Perry, who died Feb. 28, 2001; and her son, Chuck Perry, who died in April 2014. Surviving is her son, Bruce Perry and his fiancé, Amy Ludwig, of Appleton; her brothers-in-law, Russell Perry and his wife, Dorene, of Winterport, Fla., Bruce Perry of Bradford and Donald Perry of Illinois; her sisters-in-law, Pam Boody of West Enfield and Cynthia Backiel of Appleton.

A gathering will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are with Long Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
