AUGUSTA — The Midcoast 14s all-star Babe Ruth baseball team was back at work Saturday, July 15 attempting to avoid a 0-2 pool play start action in the state tournament.

Things, however, did not go as planned for the local boys as Portland walked away with a 4-2 victory.

Now sitting at 0-2 following the Friday 3-1 loss to Tri-County, Midcoast will have to win both Sunday, July 16 games in order to make it to the Monday, July 17 state championship. Midcoast will challenge South Portland at 11 a.m. and Augusta at 4:30 p.m.

Midcoast plated its two runs in the fourth inning while Portland chalked up one run in each the third and sixth innings in addition to two in the fourth.

At the plate for Midcoast: Nate Coombs (single, run), Jonah Carlson (single, run), Sam Moody (single), Brandon Cournoyer (single), Ethan Reed (single) and Joey Curtis (single).
