Point Lookout’s upcoming farm-to-table dinner as local as it gets

NORTHPORT — The Farm at Point Lookout celebrates the third season of operation with a full summer schedule including Farm-to-Table dinners and Open Farm Days. The first Farm-to-Table dinner takes place Friday, July 10.

The farm is nestled into the foothills of Ducktrap Mountain at Point Lookout, a mountain lodge encompassing 387 wooded acres, offering 106 guest cabin accommodations and 50,000 square feet of conference and event space in Northport.

Since athenahealth's purchase of Point Lookout in 2011, a new vision of sustainability is emerging on the mountain. Point Lookout transformed an under-utilized baseball field into a four-season, MOFGA-certified organic farm. The farm is able to operate 12 months of the year due to unique movable greenhouses called “high-tunnels” that use a rolling track system. This four-season farming technique allows for greater productivity, expanded varieties of fruits and vegetables, and a longer growing season. The Point Lookout Farm also provides fresh produce for all catered events taking place on the mountain, plus daily breakfasts and lunches at the Copper Pine Café.

Point Lookout hosting three Farm-to-Table Dinners open to the public on July 10, Aug. 7 and a unique fall harvest Pig Roast Sept/. 18; seating is limited so call 207-789-2000 to make reservations. The Open House Farm Day will take place Sunday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; no reservations required. Meet Point Lookout’s Farm Manager Spencer Neitmann, and learn his special techniques for growing tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, cucumbers, melons and sweet potatoes in the high tunnels. Explore the fields and greenhouses, and even visit the hens and honeybees.
