LINCOLNVILLE— Sponsored by the Lincolnville Business Group (LBG), "Pickles Preserves and Pies" is an annual harvest-time festival held at the beach to fundraise for Lincolnville Scholarships for students proceeding after high school to college, technical school, or professional/trade preparation. Local home cooks, community non-profit groups, and regional Maine product vendors sell all sorts of amazing pickles, jams, jellies, salsas, chutneys, pie fillings and, of course, Maine-made pies.

You are invited to join us to buy or sell! Think Christmas presents for family, school and music teachers, neighbors, your dinner table or to take along to dinner invitations, etc. why take wine when you can bring pickles!? Vendors can enter to win the pickle or preserves "crown" and hold the prized giant pickle for a year until the next fun and yummy competition. Volunteer judges are always welcome!

The event is held at McLaughlin's Shack at Lincolnville Beach along Rt 1 where coffee and pastries are sold throughout the morning by the LBG. Lunch will be available at several nearby LBG-member restaurants. This year a raffle will be held for a Vintage Glass Window donated by Jane Liedtke of Bay Leaf Cottages. Tickets will be on sale at the event. You do not need to be present to win.

Several pre-event fundraisers are scheduled annually including: Pickling 101, Fermenting Basics, and Preserving Techniques. These 2-hour classes are held in May-June each year. Taught by the Maine Extension Service on Saturdays in Lincolnville, they are a great way to learn in a couple of hours the key processes for safe and delicious home-canned/home-made vegetables and fruits. Watch and LIKE our Facebook Page www.facebook.com/picklespreservesandpies for next year's schedule and other events in support of this festival.

A Vintage Glass Window Workshop as part of the scholarship fundraiser will be offered on September 30th at Bay Leaf Cottages by Cathy Clifford to kick-off the harvest festival week. Two programs are being offered with all supplies included to make either a Vintage Glass or Sea-glass/Sea-theme Window or two large glass sun-catchers using glass molds. Cathy is an artist who travels New England teaching these classes. Registration: daviscathy@aol.com

This event is dog-friendly for those who wish to travel from outside the midcoast region. Doggy daycare is also available at nearby Blake Vet during the Festival. Lodging is available at nearby LBG-member Inns, Cottages and Motels in Lincolnville. Enjoy your Columbus Day Weekend with your family along the mid-coast!

Deadline for vendor registration is September 10th - forms available on the event Facebook Page. For more information contact: jane@bayleafcottages.com, 207-505-0458.

The PPP Committee includes Jane Liedtke (Bay Leaf Cottages & Bistro), Dorothee Newcombe (Whalestooth Pub and Beach Cottage Inn & Suites), Erin Shirley (Spouter Inn), Garry Schwall (Pine Grove Cottages), and Drew Strout (Pt. Lookout Resort). In order to grow this annual harvest festival event, we welcome volunteers to assist with various needs throughout the year.
