ROCKPORT — The Penobscot Bay YMCA 19th Annual Ned Kyle Boat Auction is scheduled for Saturday, June 11th. Since the first auction in 1998, this major fundraising event provides support for the YMCA Scholarship Program. This year's auction will continue to provide much-needed support for the YMCA Summer Camp kids and families as well as other neighbors in need. The Y's mission of keeping the Y accessible to everyone regardless of financial capacity is anchored firmly in its commitment to social responsibility.

The Y is looking for new or old boats (sail, power, dinghy, kayak, canoe, skiffs, rowing shells, surfboards, and just about anything that floats) or marine items that individuals would like to donate or a tax write-off. Someone from the Y will stop by and make sure it is suitable, and arrange for transportation at no expense to the donor.

The boat auction's success is due mainly to boat donations by private owners and through personal referrals. The YMCA will pay a 10 percent Finder's Fee (defined as 10 percent of the actual selling price) to anyone who helps locate a boat that is donated to the Boat Auction. The boat owner can claim the selling price as a tax deduction.

With a commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility, the Y ensures that every individual has access to the essentials needed to learn, grow and thrive. To donate a boat or for more information please call Marcia Roberts, Development Director at the Y @ 236-3375, ext. 209.
