ROCKLAND — Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Staci Coomer has tendered her resignation, according to an email late Thursday morning.

Coomer was hired for the position in October 2012, and had stated a desire to return permanently to the Penosbcot Bay region, specifically Rockport, when she was hired.

Coomer first arrived in the Penobscot Bay region in 2005, assuming the position of vice president of development for Pen Bay Healthcare in Rockport. Before that, she worked for almost a decade in development for health care systems in the Midwest. In 2008, she moved to Michigan, where she consulted for businesses in development, marketing and strategic planning before accepting a position as executive director of Hope Network.

According to the email, Coomer's letter, submitted to Chamber Board President Michael Hall, stated that she will be leaving to take on a new position in the Washington, D.C., area.

"The PBRCC Board appreciates Staci's hard work and dedication. She has helped build relationships with local business owners, community leaders and regional organizations," said Hall in the email.

A search committee has been established, and is set to begin the search for Coomer's replacement in the coming weeks.

Coomer’s last day with the Chamber will be March 20.
