NATIVE MAINER MED STUDENTS AT PEN BAY

Pen Bay welcomes Tufts University, Maine Medical students

ROCKPORT — Pen Bay Healthcare would like to announce the arrival of India Stewart and David Gregory, third year medical students enrolled in the joint Maine Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School program (TUSM-MMC). This is the second year Pen Bay Medical Center has been involved in the program. India and David will be at Pen Bay Medical Center for nine months rotating through the Departments of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, OB/GYN and Psychiatry. They will also follow staff and patients with hospitalists, in the Emergency Department, and with subspecialties.

Born in Bangor and raised in Harmony, Maine, India Stewart is a fourth generation Mainer. She attended University of Maine, earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology. India was accepted into the TUSM-MMC Maine track early assurance program in 2011 and participated in Maine Medical Center’s mini medical school. India’s passion to become a doctor deepened during her time at Eastern Maine Medical Center while job shadowing a neonatologist, pediatric surgeon and pediatric intensive care doctor. She later volunteered at Orlando Children’s Hospital. She spent time at The Jackson Laboratory as an intern doing research and later as a residential assistant where she developed leadership and communication skills.

David Gregory was born and raised in Damariscotta. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at Wheaton College. David spent time as a volunteer educator in a small orphanage and school in Ecuador, and worked with Food for the Hungry in Aceh, Indonesia serving underprivileged communities. He served as a wilderness trip leader in Three Lakes, Wisconsin where he became certified as a Wilderness First Responder. While at Wheaton, David participated in NCAA Division III Wrestling, placing second in the College Conference of Illinois Wisconsin (CCIW).
