ROCKLAND — Pauline S. Grotton, 90, slipped away peacefully Oct. 7, 2015, at Knox Center for Long Term Care.

Born in Swans Island on Sept. 27, 1925, she was the daughter of Austin D. and Bessie Martin Scott. Pauline grew up and attended school Down East.

On Dec. 3, 1946, she married Thad F. Grotton Sr. Pauline was a doting mother and grandmother, known as “Grandmom” to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great joy in knitting, quilting and crocheting birthday and holiday gifts for others. Each year, her Thanksgiving biscuits and pie crusts were eagerly anticipated. She loved summers at the family camp on Coleman Pond and in later years, often spent time lobstering with her husband around Poverty Nub and Otter islands.

She was predeceased by her husband; an infant son, Austin; five siblings, Austin S. Scott, Gleason Scott, Raymond Scott, Harriet (Hattie) Smith and Rita Zeoli; and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Grotton; Pauline is survived by her three sons, Thad Fairman Grotton Jr. of Rockland; Roy Richard Grotton and his wife, Linda, of South Thomaston, and Patrick Sylvester Grotton and his wife, Linda, of Topsham; 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

A graveside celebration of her life will be held Friday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. at Ocean View Cemetery on Rout 73 in South Thomaston.

In lieu o flowers, donations in memory of Pauline may be made to the American Cancer Society.
