ROCKLAND – Otto K. Proctor, Jr., 71, died peacefully, following a courageous fight with Alzheimer's and an extended illness, Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Coastal Manor in Yarmouth. His loving family was at his side.

Born in Bar Harbor, June 25, 1946, he was the son of Otto, Sr. and Pearley Robinson Proctor. Moving to Rockland as a young boy, Otto attended Rockland schools and earned his GED from Rockland District High School after being discharged from the Army.

Enlisting in 1965, Otto served overseas during the Vietnam War. During his time in the military, his family resided in Hawaii and Connecticut before settling in Rockland. Along the way, they welcomed four children into the family. He was honorably discharged in 1968.

Settling in Rockland, Otto continued to hone his skills as a boat builder, working for many of the local companies and boat shops in the Mid-Coast and Down East regions. Even after 'retiring', he kept busy with a boat building business of his own.

In August of 2000, Otto married the love of his life, Darlene Lindsey Widdecomb whom he had known for many years. Blending their families, Otto loved nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. Going camping, hunting, fishing and playing horseshoes were some of his favorite pastimes. He had a great sense of humor and never missed the opportunity to play a prank or a joke on his kids.

Otto was a gifted musician and a decorated member of the Maine Country Music Association. In 2010 he was inducted into the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as earning several other awards for his music. For many years he has enjoyed traveling the State playing shows and gigs with his wife at his side.
