ROCKLAND — The PenBayPilot.com News Hour on WRFR Friday and Monday mornings has become a wicked popular radio show for Midcoasters this spring.

Chris "Wolffie" Wolf is the host, and he spends the 7-8 a.m. slot reading the headlines from Penobscot Bay Pilot's free community news website, launched in September 2012. The show kicked off in the middle of February and is going strong, with talk of possibly expanding to cover two hours at least one of the days. In addition to the news, Wolf plays music and regularly hosts guests on the show.

A testament to the radio show's popularity in the community has been the increasing number of phone calls and emails to Wolf and PenBayPilot from potential guests.

"I am fielding a lot of calls, and some people are really persistent about wanting to come on the show," said Wolf. “I tell them it’s not my call, to talk to the editors.”

Friday morning's guests were Leni Gronros of Graffam Brothers Seafood Market and blogger Jessabelle Lemonade, who writes the weekly UnderCURRENT column on PenBayPilot.com and has become a regular Friday morning guest with the latest updates on things to do for the weekend.

Previous guests from the business community have included Elizabeth Black of Black Bros. Builders, Deb Mehan of University College at Rockland, Bill Packard, Chris Richmond and Gene McKeever of Allen Agency, Pat O'Brien of Fiore Artisan Olive Oils and Vinegars and Heidi Neal of Loyal Biscuit, among others. Upcoming guests include Audrey Lovering of Many Flags/One Community, Joan LeMole of Penobscot School and Maine-based author Hodding Carter.

Wolf’s radio dance card is currently booked, but queries about the being a guest on the radio show can be sent to editor@penbaypilot.com.

Radio talk show host is not Wolf's only gig. He also provides content for PenBayPilot.com, covering a variety of community news and feature stories. But radio is in Wolf's blood, as he's been a radio "jockey" since 1988, when he hosted morning shows in the popular Florida communities of Key West, Ft. Myers and Daytona Beach. He also did a stint as news director for Maine's Coast 102.5.
