What a great day for soccer! Awesome weather and an awesome win!

MMS girls took the lead late in the first. With 23:40 gone Abby Lash found the back of the net. Then about four minutes later Kristina Rolerson scored giving MMS a 2-0 lead at the end of the half.

MMS came out aggressive and didn't back down. Steph Morse scored with 3:47 gone in the second half on an assist from Lash. Lash crossed the ball the middle and Morse had an open shot and placed in into the corner of the net.

About four minutes later Annie Vannoy scored on a beautiful shot. Two minutes later Lizzi Swan also scored with a beautiful placement of the ball giving MMS a 5-0 lead. With 17:05 gone in the second half, one more goal was found and it was by Kylie Cochran. This gave MMS the final score of 6-0.

Great defense was played by Zaniah Puchaski, Eliza Nelson, Hannah Lee, Kaia OBrien and Morse. Great offense played by numerous players. A great team effort.

The championship game will be played at noon at Point Lookout on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The sun was out in all its splendor to lend its blessing to the Lincolnville Lynx as they defeated a very strong Jefferson team 2-0 at Lincolnville on Wednesday, Oct. 19. With this victory, Lincolnville advances to the championship game this Saturday at the Point Lookout field in Northport for the second year in a row.

The game started with a very exciting first two minutes when Jefferson broke through the Lynx defense and very nearly scored followed by an LCS drive on the other end with another nail biting miss. Then both teams settled down and started to play a consistently skillful game with possession divided fairly evenly and many threats at each end. It actually resembled somewhat of an endurance contest to see which side outlasted the other. Lincolnville finally managed to breakthrough on a brilliant drive by winger Jackson Bernier. Bernier took a pass on the left about 30 yards out and drove deep down the sideline dribbling by a defender before cutting in towards the goal, beating another defender to close on the nets, and ending it with a hard finishing shot past the helpless keeper. LCS’s single goal lead survived a significant threat after a hand ball call in the box. The resulting penalty kick was driven hard off the crossbar, and the swarming LCS defense corralled it and cleared it up field to end the play. The Lynx got their second goal at the 29-minute mark after a free kick was awarded to the Lynx just past the centerfield circle. Midfielder Eric Andrews sailed the ball towards striker Yonah Wienges who controlled the ball despite the efforts of two defenders. Wienges then calmly nailed his shot just inside of the far post to get the insurance goal.

The endurance contest continued in the second half as Jefferson came out and staged a make or break effort to get back in the game. The Lynx survived a particularly dangerous thrust when a Jefferson forward came flying into the box chasing a long pass, but keeper Matt Kremin alertly charged the ball and made an excellent sliding tackle to drive the ball away. The LCS defense was then able to withstand the several attacks that ensued and to initiate slashing counterattacks as well. The game remained a tense seesaw battle until the final minutes, but no further scores were notched.

Once again the stopper-sweeper combination of Owen Markowitz and Wyatt Munson did a terrific job of controlling the defensive center of the field with both players making multiple key tackles followed by long clears up to the midfield. They were ably supported by wing defenders Lincoln Outerbridge and rose LaChance. Midfielders Emmit Dayhoof and Kara Andrews also strongly supported both offensive and defensive efforts, and wingers Hanna Hallundbaek and Jordan Peasley drove the ball aggressively forward on the offense. Finally, Kremin’s fine play in the nets allowed him to record his 8th shutout in 12 games played.
