Varsity Boys Soccer: Camden Hills 5, Skowhegan 0
(By Ryan Hurley)

In a blustery wind and temperatures hovering around 42 degrees, the Windjammers put the finishing touches on a stellar 2017 regular season by defeating host Skowhegan to the tune of 5-0. Ben Owre would open the scoring six minutes into the game with a beautiful volley into the side of the net courtesy of a well delivered cross by Michael Blackwell.

Quinn Brown would score seven minutes later with an outstanding individual effort that saw him elude several defenders and careen through the box in route to a well placed finish around the keeper. Five minutes later Marshall Merriam scorched a ball into the side netting with Quinn Brown assisting.

The 'Jammers would carry the 3-0 lead into half time.

After the break, Lucas Boetsch scored his third goal of the season from the goalkeeper position, a 55 yard knuckle ball that swerved into the back of the net. Quinn Brown would close out the scoring with 30 minutes to play in the half, assisted by Marshall Merriam. Lucas Boetsch and Nathan Levig combined to make two saves on two shots for the Windjammers. Camden Hills had six corner kicks to Skowhegan's two in the game.

It was a frigid fall day but the boys did a great job possessing the ball and finished clinically. It was nice to get some of our younger players an opportunity to play and we were happy to get the win. Now it's time to get ready for playoffs. We have a great team that's capable of making a deep run in the playoffs. I know the boys are hungry and respectful of the playoff field, but I also know they have shown that they can compete with anyone and fear no one. It's going to be a fun post season.

The Windjammers end the regular season at 8-3-3.

Middle School Soccer: Lincolnville 4, Vinalhaven 0
(By Ben Edes)

LCS completed their first step towards another championship game by defeating the Vinalhaven Vikings 4-0 on a brisk fall day at Lincolnville.

Both teams started play very evenly with the ball staying in the middle half of the field and neither goalie really touching the ball until 14:10 had passed. At that point, the Lynx offense began to get untracked when midfielder Jack Fishman sent a corner kick into winger Jackson Bernier who had found a hole in the defense just to the inside of the near post. Bernier promptly and deftly headed the ball straight into the nets for the first tally of the game. It took just over six minutes to get the insurance goal, initiated by a square pass from Bernier on the left into striker Griffin Dubrow. Dubrow continued the square onto Fishman who had a fine view of the back end of the goal, and he redirected the ball just inside of the post.

The scoring for the half ended at 27:09 when winger Matt Kremin sent a long feed from just over midfield through the defense. Dubrow raced the defenders and a charging keeper for the ball, and though he just lost to the keeper, the ensuing kick rebounded off a Viking defender towards the goal. Dubrow continued to race in and caught up with the ball just in time to tip it over the line for the score.

Both sides played more evenly in the second half, but LCS managed the only score at 44:16 when Bernier intercepted an angling defensive pass out of the box near the top of the box. He alertly sent the ball into the empty backside of the goal before the keeper could react.

Facing their first challenge of the playoff season, the entire LCS team performed well. On defense, Emmit Dayhoof anchored the line as he has been doing all year, with Lincoln Outerbridge and Lili Clement lending strong support at the wing defensive positions, and John Pessara aggressively played the stopper spot.

Kara Andrews and Mason Clark provided excellent play in the midfield line, and Jaden Johnson exhibited her fine, hustling style for the crowd at the right wing position.
