Oceanside, Troy Howard crowned 7th grade basketball champions

Woodman, Veilleux led their teams to championship titles

ROCKLAND The Busline Basketball League finished up the season Friday with the seventh grade at Oceanside East in Rockland and the eighth grade at Oceanside West in Thomaston.

In the seventh grade games No. 2 Oceanside knocked off No. 1 Boothbay in an exciting, but low scoring game 25-19.

In the boys game it was all No. 1 Troy Howard with a solid win over No. 3 Medomak Middle School with a 70-45 win.

GIRLS GAME
Oceanside 25, Boothbay 18 ... This was a very fun game as each team gave it their all from the opening tip off to the final buzzer, it was anyone's game at any time.

Oceanside took a 9-4 first quarter lead and held a 14-6 half time lead. Boothbay bounced back some in the third quarter cutting Oceanside's lead to four points, 20-16 heading into the final quarter of play where the Mariners were able to hold off Boothbay to capture the Busline League seventh grade championship.

Grace Woodman led the way for Oceanside with 19 points; Katherine Freeman and Autumn Harvey had two each; and Sadie Street and Olivia Dougherty one apiece.

Oceanside was 7-of-28 (25 percent) from the foul line and they had two 3-pointers from Woodman.

Other members of the Oceanside team are, Haley Boynton, Jessica Watkinson, Lydia Ross, Lainie Hooper, and Alexa Barstow. The team is coached by Jeff Woodman.

For Boothbay, Rachel Gentry had eight points; Haley Abbott, Madison Hughes, Kyla Taylor, Sydney Welch and Jaelyn Crocker two each.

Boothbay was 2-of-9 (23 percent) from the foul line and they had two 3-pointers from Gentry.

Other team members are, Abby Little, Jazmine Balducci, Isabel Harkins, Emilie Crocker and Cassandra Doray. The team is coached by John Deetjen.

BOYS GAME
Troy Howard 70, Medomak MS 45 ... The Medomak MS seventh grade boys season came to a close yesterday at the hands of Troy Howard, who they were not able to overcome this season, losing to them three times.

Troy Howard took a 22-8 first quarter lead and the rest as they say is history. By the end of the first half the Lions had a 34-17 lead to double up the Riverhawks. The third quarter was better for the Riverhawks, but the Lions had an answer for everything they did. In the fourth quarter the Lions pulled away for good for the lopsided win to claim the Busline League seventh grade boys championship.

"Well all didn't go as planned when the seventh grade Riverhawks traveled to Rockland for a third matchup with the Belfast Lions," said Medomak coach Richard Vannah. "The Lions proved to be to tough for the upset minded Riverhawks."

Scoring for Troy Howard were, Tanner Veilleux with 25 points; Chris Kelley 18; Jason Bartlett 16; Chance Clark four; Ethan Porter, Tommy Walker and Jacob Mills-Lightner two each; and Steven Friel one.

Other members of the Lions are, Zepherin Leppanen, Cole Martin, Eamon Kosinski, Jonah Lovejoy, Thuan Pham, Matt LeBlanc and Ethan Hall.

For Medomak, Brandon Starr had 12 points; Kallon Mortensen seven; Ethan Reed and Ian Doughty five each; Parker Morrison four; Anthony York and Zach Sincyr three each; Aiden Starr and Zach Cheeseman two each, and Isaiah Staples and Owen Underhill one each.

The remaining team members are, Zach Winpenny, Issac McCollett, Noah Crosby, and Max Moody. The team is coached by Richard Vannah.
